New Products  MILK QUALITY: Matanuska Maid is pleased to be able to introduce yellow plastic containers for its ½ and 1 gallon containers of milk. These jugs are made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic, and are manufactured locally by Matanuska Maid. The containers provide several added benefits to our customers. The HDPE plastic blocks more of the ultraviolet light (UV) that can cause oxidation and the development of off flavors in milk. Blocking UV also protects the nutritional qualities of milk, because UV reduces the effectiveness of some vitamins in milk, including vitamins A, B2 and C. USE & HANDLING: HDPE containers are much more durable than paper, and once opened, can be sealed tightly. This helps extend the shelf life of the milk, and prevents it from absorbing aromas and flavors from other foods, such as onions and fish, that may be in the refrigerator. The handles and smaller, consistently sized pour spouts make the jugs are also easier to hold and pour from, which is a benefit for young and old alike. RECYCLING: HDPE milk jugs can be recycled and made into a number of durable products such as containers, floor tiles, milk crates, plastic lumber, outdoor furniture and drainage pipes. |
