Cold Stone Creamery Chooses Matanuska Maid as its “Mix Master” in Alaska
ANCHORAGE, Alaska May 15, 2006 - Cold Stone Creamery Chooses Matanuska Maid as its “Mix Master” in Alaska Anchorage--Cold Stone Creamery – the world’s fastest growing premium ice cream - discovered how to further increase Alaskan’s craving for its famous treats. They recently selected Matanuska Maid to produce the rich mix used by local Cold Stone franchises for all of their ice cream products.
The agreement now allows Cold Stone the ability to produce its popular ice cream base mix here, fresh, rather than shipping it from the Northwest. Cold Stone plant inspector and “Taste Master” Ray Karam said, after product testing at Matanuska Maid’s facility: “the mix has a pleasant sweetness and a fresh, clean dairy flavor…Matanuska Maid Dairy has mastered the art.”
Orders to the Cold Stone franchises have rapidly grown in excess of 1000 gallons a week, said Delene Bartel, Matanuska Maid’s sales director. She said she anticipates the volume going up dramatically as summer arrives.
Cold Stone, founded in Scottsdale, Arizona, has more than 1200 operating franchises in the US, the Caribbean, Guam and Japan. In addition to the company leading all other super-premium ice cream concepts in per/store sales, Cold Stone is listed #11 on Entrepreneur magazine’s 2005 list of the “Fastest Growing Franchises in America.
The first Alaskan franchise opened in 1999, in Anchorage, and quickly set a company record for sales in the opening 18 months. There are now eight Cold Stone stores in Alaska: four in Anchorage, and one each in Eagle River, Soldotna, Wasilla and Fairbanks.
“We are very excited and have looked forward to this partnership for the last seven years,” said Larry Bigalke, area developer for Cold Stone Creamery in Alaska. “We are happy to support the Alaskan community by purchasing our product locally.”
Matanuska Maid President and CEO, Joe Van Treeck, said that the business partnership with Cold Stone is an “absolute delight.” “Matanuska Maid, with a tradition of 70 years in Alaska, is a great fit with Cold Stone,” he said. “Our reputation for quality brands combined with Cold Stone’s current and trendy mix of flavors is a recipe for success. We deeply appreciate Cold Stone’s support of Alaska business and our dairy industry, he said”
